Dear Applicant,
Thank you for expressing interest in the programmes at the Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest.
Our university, founded by Cardinal Péter Pázmány, was opened on Tuesday, 13 November 1653, and teaching started the next day at the Faculty of Humanities. We will begin our 373rd term in September 2007. In the more than 300 years that have passed since that Tuesday, our Faculty has educated the finest members of our political and intellectual life. We are proud of our past and our traditions, but we are equally proud of our present and all our achievements. The Faculty of Humanities of Eötvös Loránd University is not only the biggest Humanities Faculty of Hungary, but also the best. This is supported by the surveys carried out by independent higher education market research groups. According to the joint ranking of World Economy Weekly (Heti Világgazdaság, HVG) and the National Higher Education Information Center (OFIK), our Faculty obtained the absolute first place among all the 164 faculties of the 72 higher education institutions evaluated in Hungary. According to the ranking of the largest Hungarian daily, Népszabadság, our Faculty occupies first place among all 101 BA majors.
Past and present, tradition and quality is the slogan that best summarizes what our Faculty stands for.
